Wellness and Disease Prevention

The observation I have made as a nurse working with patients with anxiety is that various efforts and approaches have been put to work in different aspects of health promotion and prevention. First, it has to be acknowledged that there have been several provisions made by nurses to address the potential factors that contribute to the mental suffering of patients. In addition, there have been various workshops organized to educate individuals on the control and management of anxiety-related issues such as eating, sleeping, and exercising. The above-mentioned prevention techniques have taught me a lot in terms of problem avoidance.

Chronic Disease Management

Based on my experience, I can confidently say that management of anxiety disorder should follow the same principles and procedures as any other chronic condition. The success of the management approach offered to anxiety disorder patients is largely dependent on the level of collaboration of the multidisciplinary team, which includes nurses, psychiatrists, medical doctors, social workers, and other professionals. Some of the patients presented with very debilitating anxiety symptoms that negatively impacted their physical health and their ability to be professionally successful. Through collaboration, the patients were supported to manage their symptoms. The management of the condition can be through counseling, after-care, and pharmacotherapy.

Regenerative and Restorative Care

In my view, one of the primary elements of this procedure is enabling patients to regain some of their lost skills and allowing them to learn coping skills. When evaluating patients who meet the diagnostic criteria for anxiety disorders, symptoms that are typically present may include, but are not limited to, panic attacks, insomnia, and problems with concentration and performance during work and everyday activities. Because of these issues, a number of treatment modalities, including, but not limited to, cognitive behavioral therapy, pharmaceuticals, and mindfulness practices, have been developed and are utilized in concert with members of the interprofessional health team. This disorder was a growing concern due to the potentiality of its complications and the patient requiring further psychiatric hospitalization. As a nurse practitioner, I learned to value the profession of health.

Hospice and Palliative Care

During my time in the field of anxiety disorder care, I have learned that palliative care is more than just solving the patient’s medical issues. Patients who access palliative care typically are patients with no potential for recovery. In such cases, the patient’s anxiety is actually a fear of death. As a result, it is the nurse’s duty to provide psychosocial support to the patient and the patient’s family in order to facilitate the making of appropriate decisions. This also supports the patient and the family. Therefore, the great need for the provision of palliative care services.
